Torbjörn Blomdahl wins the first Agipi Masters
Friday, 7th of march 2008, 22h25

Tournament with spectacle billiard and a lot of suspension. They meet each other so many times on the billiard and every time there is a twinkling in the air. The apotheosis of the Agipi Masters tournament was a fight between two famous and very great champions in the world of three cushion. The victory was for Torbjörn Blomdahl, who defeated Dick Jaspers with 50-26 (25 innings) in a spectacular ambiance.
The dreamed final, between the very best players of the event, fascinated in the beginning. It was Torbjörn Blomdahl who demonstrated top-class on the billiard, fighting spirit and mental power. The clash between the Dutchman and the Swede had to be the highlight of the tournament, but Dick Jaspers unfortunately had his only bad moment in the final.
There was already a tremendous applause for both players before the start. Dick Jaspers took the breakshot, started with a run of three and the match was on his way. But in a short time it was Blomdahl who took the initiative that gave him an advantage.
The match turned from 15-10 for Blomdahl to 25-20 and then the crucial phase was there: the Swede made five and seven and took a lead of 43-21. Jaspers struggled, but had no chance to fight back in the match.
After the match there was of course a little concolation for Jaspers. He got the best average overall (2.212), made the highest run of the tournament (22) and also took the most price money of all players (28.900 euro’s).
The budget of the price-money, planned on 100.000 euros, did’nt suffice to pay for all the great performances. The total price-money was growing at the final day until 121.450 euros.
The organizer, Mister Claude Fath, president of Agipi, said with a smile that he made a mistake with the calculation. ,,But I’m really happy that the level was so high.’’
The conclusion must be that the Agipi Billard Masters made a excellent start, with so many spectacular matches, such a very high level and a lot of suspense in the qualification rounds and the finals. The dream of Mister Fath, to organize an event with the best and the most attractive players and bring it all over the world with live video’s and pictures on internet and broadcast on television, has come true.
The thunderous applause at the end was not only meant for the artists of billiard, but also for the organizer. The Agipi tournament has put his name on the international calendar. And all the players in the top of the world will be proud to participate in such a tremendous event.

  Superior win for Torbjörn Blomdahl
Friday, 7th of march 2008, 19h30

What Semih Sayginer did one day before in his match against Martin Horn, happened with him in the semi final. The Turkish player answered when Horn missed the breakshot with a run of nine. Torbjörn Blomdahl now did the very same with Sayginer, who was missing the breakshot and then saw the Swede make a nine in his first.
A nine again for Torbjörn, just like he did three times on a row in his match against Eddy Merckx on wednesday. But anyway: he is in the finale after a decent match against Sayginer, which he dominated from the beginning.
There was even a 21-6 lead after seven innings and a 30-14 score after fifteen innings. ,,I was not so lucky’’, said Sayginer, who showed the public again some magic shots. The most tremendous, who brought everyone in charm, Semih missed unfortunately on millimeters.
He showed himself a glorious looser, wishing Blomdahl a lot of success in the final. ,,I’m happy that I came to the semi finals here, in a tournament with so many fantastic players. That gives me the feeling that I can be good, although I play no tournaments at all.’’
Torbjörn Blomdahl finished the game after 26 innings with a score of 50-26. And then looked forward to the final. ,,I have played so many matches against Jaspers, I think it must be 140 or 150. And a lot of finals, like here.’’

The champions are coming up, hopefully for an excellent final.

Jaspers the killer, Caudron the victim
Friday, 7th of march 2008, 16h40

The Dutchman Dick Jaspers has taken the last obstacle on his way to the final of the Agipi Masters tournament. On the centre court of the Agipi-arena the 42 year old player won the semi final against the dreaded Frédéric Caudron, who had one of his seldom bad days.
The advantage of Jaspers at the end was imposing: 50 points for the Duchtman, only 19 for the Belgian player. After a very slow start Jaspers displayed himself as the killer, Caudron seemed to be a tolerant victim.
The public in the Agipi was ready for an excellent match, but as always you need two players for an exhibition. Jaspers had the spirit to fight for it, Caudron did’nt. ,,We always play fantastic matches when we meet each other’’, Jaspers said. ,,Today it was’nt the Caudron who we all know.’’
The Belgian could not object it, he just rested with his damage. ,,I don’t know what is wrong, but I could not do anything’’, he clarified in the minutes after the finish, trying to find an excuse. ,,For such a long time I am playing on a very high level, but here I’m weak and fragile. Every time I went to the billiard it seemed that the balls did not like me. And if you think like that, every position is bad.’’
Caudron collected the unusual number of fifteen misses(!) in 26 innings. He stayed in the match because Jaspers also had a very slow start, but after 12-7 in eight innings the Dutchman found himself back, made a few wonderful points and then slowly walked away from Caudron. The score went up to 21-14, 30-15, 40-16 and at the end to 50-19 in 26 innings.

Dick Jaspers looked back in satisfaction: ,,Yes, of course it was’nt what we all expected, but later in the match I got the good feeling to win and make a good average. So I’m looking out for playing the final in the evening.
