Blomdahl cannot stop Caudron
Thursday, 6th of march 2008, 23h00
Frédéric Caudron knows that winning against Torbjörn Blomdahl is never an easy job. He did it in his last match in group F, with a clear score (50-33 in 25 innings) and never ran into problems.
The victory with an average of 2 was better than the win of Marco Zanetti against Eddy Merckx (50-34 in 29 innings), so it meant that Caudron will join the three other players for the semi finals.
The Belgian had to struggle for life after his bad start against Zanetti, but succeeded with a little bit of luck. “It was so strange”, Zanetti said. “I had to win, to play a good average and look at the other table, for the result of Caudron against Blomdahl.”
He won his game, but lost the qualification. “It probably means that Caudron deserved it more than me.”

Blomdahl shows his excellent form
Thursday, 6th of march 2008, 15h30
The clash between two winners, at the start of the second day, didn’t live up to all expectations. Torbjörn Blomdahl showed his excellent form in his match against Marco Zanetti and is now the sovereign leader in his group.
Frédéric Caudron, winner over Eddy Merckx, faces a tough task to take the other place in the semi finals. As he has to beat… Blomdahl.
The Swedish champion again sprinkled on his certain way to the final rounds. There was never a dull moment in his match, which he finished in 19 innings with a run of eight and an overpowering advantage on Marco Zanetti: 50-18.
And, also important for himself, he did it in only in 65 minutes… “I didn’t realize it went so fast, because I never have an idea of how long the matches last”, Blomdahl said after the match.
After the second victory makes he now has the best average of all four players.
Frédéric Caudron saved his last chance, beating Eddy Merckx in 27 innings. The Belgium had three big runs (10, 9 and 7), but still wasn’t satisfied. “I don’t feel good, a little tired”, he confessed.
The match was decided by those runs, which gave Caudron an advantage of 37-29 and 44-29. The score at the end: 50-36.

Blomdahl is playing 9-balls
Wednesday, 5th of march 2008, 20h
The magic number of ten, good for a bonus of 500 euros in the Agipi tournament, was a kind of nightmare for Torbjörn Blomdahl in his first performance. The Swedish collector of titles in three cushion looked back on a marvellous start against Eddy Merckx, but there was a strange coincidence. He missed three times a rewarded high run just before he reaching ten points.
So it seemed like Blomdahl was playing 9-balls in the very cosy hall of the Agipi centre. "I had a good start and in fact I never had any troubles", he said. "Although it was not so great what I did. I made the easy points and missed the difficult ones."
Torbjörn Blomdahl finished his match against Eddy Merckx in twenty innings (50-35), after making his runs of nine in the first, the 9th and the 11th inning. "I think it was not so strange that I missed on nine", he confessed. "Because the ninth point was every time an easy and the tenth a very difficult shot."
On the other table Frédéric Caudron brought himself in big trouble against his teammate Marco Zanetti. The Belgian, who won in Sluiskil the first World Cup of this year, seemed not happy about all the bad positions on the table, missing one after the other.
The first sensation in this final rounds was there, when Zanetti lead the whole match (14-12, 31-16, 44-27) and finished after 25 innings with a surprising lead of 50 against 31. "And so we have seen again that billiards is so strange", he said after his game.
